Berner Oberland

The Bernese Oberland is a region within the Bern Canton and is one of the oldest holiday destinations in Switzerland. Everything you’ve always imagined about Switzerland can be found here. It lies in the centre of Switzerland and is easy to get to.  Apart from plenty of opportunities for day trips to the fine cities of Luzern and Bern, places to hike or play golf, this region is also ideal for water sports and mountaineering. The most popular area for tourists from all over the world is undoubtedly the Jungfrau region. Here you will find famous mountains such as the Eiger, whose almost perpendicular north face represents a challenge for many mountaineers. There is also the Jungfrau, which you can ascend by mountain railway to enjoy a magnificent view of the whole region and across an icy glaciated world from the highest railway station in Europe. These mountains and the area in the Wallis Canton that lies behind them have been designated a UNESCO natural world heritage site and therefore have a protected status. Another famous viewpoint is the Schilthorn with its revolving restaurant. The city of Interlaken and the two lakes around it, Lake Thun and Lake Brienz provide access to the Jungfrau region.
